About Laura Alice.

After completing a BA (Hons) Degree in Fashion Atelier at The University of the Creative Arts in Rochester, Laura went onto complete a series of internships with fashion designers, such as Georgia Hardinge, wedding dress makers such as Atelier Tammam, and pattern cutters such as Lucy Jayne Pattern Cutters; before starting her own dressmaking business Laura Alice Dressmaking.

The dressmaking business began by working with young emerging designers such as Clio Peppiatt and Victoria Irving. This involved meeting with those designers, discussing their design ideas and then pattern cutting, toiling and sampling whole collections, ready to be taken ahead into production elsewhere.

The business developed and become more focused on creating one off dresses for individual clients, including bridal, mother of the bride, wedding guest or holiday clothes. The business continued on, and this bespoke service is something that is still available today.

Laura also started teaching small groups sewing and pattern cutting lessons and workshops, but now this is on a one-to-one basis, in her home studio only.

Due to Covid and the restrictions that were introduced, unfortunately the dressmaking business was forced to take a back seat and Laura found she needed a full time job instead. This is where she began working for Passmore Yacht Upholstery. This was a fantastic job and learning experience, working both as a sewing machinist and trainee upholsterer. Laura worked on all sorts of projects, and massively expanded her skill set to make all manner of items, such as modern foam headboards, bench seating, boat mast covers as well as saloon seating and outdoor seats and backrests. Laura stayed working here for 18 months before deciding to move on and expand her skillset elsewhere.

Laura then moved to work for Southern Drapes Curtain Makers Ltd, where she learned curtain making to a high level, creating curtains and roman blinds for hotels such as the Dorchester and The Beaumont. This was a fantastic job for 18 months, where Laura gained so much knowledge and experience to create high end curtains with various heading type, and blinds, as well as table cloths and other soft furnishings.

This brings us to today, and the birth of Laura Alice Lifestyle. An amalgamation of the original Laura Alice Dressmaking, as well as the new era of Laura Alice Curtain Making and Soft Furnishings.

Laura will be attending a curtain making for business course starting May 2024 to gain a qualification in Professional Curtain Making and Soft Furnishings.

Laura Alice Lifestyle offers sewing services for dressmaking, curtains and soft furnishings. Please do not hesitate to get in touch regarding your unique project, and Laura would be happy to help.
